Sunshine Beautiful Sunshine!

Our power went out at 7:30 Wednesday morning and we have been redneck pioneering ever since. Living in the country, we have a well for water, this means no power no water. Swimming pools make great flush water reservoirs but when pine trees become missiles they have a tendency to put holes in liners and opps no more flush water! Retro fitted camp stove has met our cooking needs. Camp lantern for light, along with small glass house lanterns, flashlights and solar powered windows in the day time.Sorry just had to add that last one! But we really are using solar panels to keep three batteries charged for powering the tv at news time and a great lil light in kitchen. Retro fitted generator (runs on propane) to run well and cycle the fridge. Heat has not been an issue for us, we have an ugly ole wood stove that provides glorious heat, when we have wood and gas as back up.Wood is not a problem now! Thursday was spent dodging falling trees and limbs while clearing all of the dirt roads we live on. There are three to get to our home. The neighborhood, there are seven homesteads out there, pooled equipment and man power ,two tractors, three chainsaws  and most able bodies including two dogs, lol and got the job done! Friday the task was retro fitting the broken generator. That didn't take long and we were back in water. Yipee! Saturday has been almost normal minus power and hot water, but we are coping. Have been told our power won't be back on till Tuesday or Wednesday, nobodies happy about that especially when the line crew fixed right up to the road we live on and then left but oh well thats how the cookie crumbles. At least we have a house still standing mostly intact. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, we had an earthquake. 4.4 on the scale and felt from Virginia to Florida. It has been a most unusual Valentines to say the least. We are relaitively healthy and our needs are met, so we have plenty to be thankful for! I did not take pictures, it is not something I really want to remember, but I am unlikely to forget these events any time soon.

Why?

Why is aging so brutal? Why do people slowly deteriorate into shadows of themselves? People live good lives and then its like the rug is pulled out from under them. They slowly and painfully loss themselves, becoming people we don't recognize. Mothers who were forces of nature,Fathers who were towers of strength. Parents who raised their children well, are become the childs role and children who looked to parents for guidance and direction are become the parents role. Life fills with uncertainty, impending loss. Empty places left in our hearts and lives.
